Master Guide to Death Leveling Your Pets to lvl 11-20 in 10-60 Minutes!
This is a great method to level up your pets to lvl 11-20 (any desired level) in 10-60 minutes. This method will level your animal companions and evolve them faster than ever before. It will also allow you to change pets as often as you want. To top it off, you can go AFK (away from keyboard) when the speed leveling process begins... (This does not use the previous Dealth Leveling method that uses Resurrection Shrines) (Updated)
================================================== =======
The Idea of this method is to set up your armor with health sacrificing runes so you will get exactly 7hp when you reach 60dp (death penalty). This will allow you to be killed by one hit from the animals you want to tame. You also need set up either a Monk or a Mesmer/Monk hero with resurrecting spells, find a pet away from harms way, then flag your hero within earshot of you (if needed). First thing you do to start the leveling process is; being using Charm Animal on desired pet, cancel the tame before it finishes to turn the animal hostile, then keep the animal hostile so he will beable to attack you. You will then let the hostile pet kill you repeatedly until you reach 60dp (or get yourself killed to 60dp from stronger enemies) . Once down to 60dp, the speed leveling process begins and you can go AFK. The pet will kill you in only one hit no matter what your armor is even if you get healed. Each time the animal kills you, he will gain experience points and level himself up, and then you can tame your pet once they reach desired level. This makes it very quick and easy to level your pets to 20 and evolve dire. This allows you to change pets as often as you want without spending hours upon hours trying to level one to max with previous methods...
================================================== =======
You: All you need is to have Ranger as your first or second profession. Equip nothing but Charm Animal, since there no need to have any other skills unless you need to take a full group of Hero/Hench's to clear out surrounding enemies so you can get to the area of your target pet.
[build prof=r box][Charm Animal][no skill][no skill][no skill][no skill][no skill][no skill][no skill][/build]
Equipment:
*Any 3 pieces of armor can be used with any armor level.
*2 Superior Runes of any kind (besides Vigor)
*1 Major Rune
----------------------------------------------
Mesmer/Monk (Hero): Equip them with resurrection spells and 1 or 2 heals for themselves when needed. Mesmer can be alot faster than using a Monk hero since you can use their Fast Casting attribute to help speed up the casting of spells. Any other healing spells or resurrection spells can be used if desired. These are just example skill sets... (Take Rebirth if you plan on killing yourself down to 60dp from strong enemies) . Ether Signet is optional, but can help if your Mesmers energy drains too low from casting 10 energy Resurrection spells one after another. Not recommended to use Mending with a Mesmer, since their energy will eventually drain very low.
[build prof=me/mo fas=10+3+1 hea=12 box ins=8 box][Orison of Healing][Signet of Rejuvenation][Ether Signet][Resurrect][Resurrection Chant][no skill][no skill][/build]
Equipment:
*Any Vigor Rune (optional).
*3 Virtuoso's or any insigneas for armor bonus(optional).
*Superior Fast Casting on mask
*2 Radiant Insigneas for energy (optional).
*2 Attunement Runes (optional).
*Any Max staff for energy.
----------------------------------------------
Monk Hero (variation): Monk can be used if you don't have a mesmer hero.
[build prof=mo/me hea=10+2+1 div=12 ins=8 box][Orison of Healing][Signet of Rejuvenation][Ether Signet][Mending][Resurrect][Resurrection Chant][no skill][no skill][/build]
================================================== =======
1. Equip only your 3 pieces of armor. Make sure you armor has exactly the right amount of health sacrificing runes to ensure that you will have 7hp total health once you reach 60dp (death penalty).
2. Find your desired pet and make sure he is away from harm of other enemies in the area. This can be done in either Normal Mode or Hard Mode. Hard Mode will alow the pet to do more damage which in return can speed things up.
3. Flag your Hero within earshot from where you will be standing, and set him to Avoid Combat. Be sure not to flag heros near walls, ledges or anything they can get hung up on as it might stop the process. If you are in a big open area with no enemies nearby, there is no need to flag hero down as long as he is set to Avoid Combat. Disable all of your heros skills besides Resurrect and Ether Signet until you reach 60dp. This includes disabling Resurrection Chant. Manually apply Mending to your hero if you using a Monk.
4. Begin using Charm Animal on your pet and cancel it out. This is so you can keep the animal hostile and allow him to attack you, then eventually kill you. It will take a few minutes for the pet to kill down to 60dp, and make sure to stick around to make sure everything goes right until then. (Tip: you can also take a hero with Rebirth and let strong enemies kill you down to 60dp then go and start leveling your pet. This could speed things up)
4. Once you get 60dp, enable Resurrection Chant to work with Resurrect, and enable the two healing spells for Mesmer Hero. Keep Orison of Healing disabled or any other healing spells including Mending, but keep Signet of Rejuvention enabled, when using a Monk Hero. (the Hero will heal you after you are resurrected, but the healing won't be enough to keep you alive. You will still die with one hit from your pet... Aslong as you got a total of 7hp)
5. Now the Speed Leveling process begins!
6. You can watch the leveling process, or you can go completely AFK. There is no need to stick around aslong as you have everything setup exactly as described (Armor, Runes, Skills).
7. Once your pet reaches level 20 and ready to charm. Disable Resurrect for your hero so he will only use Resurrection Chant and Enable any healing spells. Once your hero resurrects you one last time, quickly take off all your armors that have health sacrificing runes or equip any armor/weapons with health bonuses. This way you won't die in one hit and beable to stay alive while you charm your new pet. Your Hero will heal you to keep you alive while you tame your pet.
8. Enjoy your new lvl 20 Dire pet!
================================================== ========
Notes:
---------------------------
*If you take full group of heros/henches, be sure to flag them all off radar besides the hero you will be using. I am not sure if going alone with hero, or taking full group will affect the amount of experience the pet will gain. Either way it should work. This can also be done in Hard Mode which should allow the pet to attack quicker and do more damage, which in return can help speed up the process of getting yourself down to 60dp.
*Unfortunately, this method will not work on the massive Rainbow Phoenix which is inside your Hall of Monutments once you reach 10 Maxed Titles(People Know Me). The Rainbow Phoenix only spawns inside your HoM when you enter alone, which does not allow you to take a hero. I am also not sure if they Rainbow Phoenix even attacks or not when you cancel out Charm Animal. (Not yet confirmed) It maybe be possible to level your Rainbow Phoenix with R/Rt or Rt/R using
[Lively Was Naomei] and [Restoration] (not tested but just an idea).
*I also claimed you could level your pet to 20 in 35 minutes in the Thread title. For some reason I can't seem to get that same result, I think I must of mean't that you could level the pet to 15 and Dire in 35 minutes, as that timing could be correct even though it is possible to do this in 25 minutes if everything goes smoothly. It normally takes around 60 minutes to level pets to 20.
*It can be possible to use 3 heros to do this, have 1 Mesmer hero for Resurrecting and 2 other set up with same runes as you. It will be quicker to go and whipe your 4-man party down to 60dp from max level monsters (Normal Mode only). Then, you and 2 other heros can be used as a sacrifice for greater good of leveling your pet. Be sure to set all heros to Avoid Combat, and take off any weapons besides the Hero that needs extra energy for Resurrecting your party. This may also shave a few minutes off. (Not yet tested)
================================================== ========
Have fun changing pets as often as you would like, without spending hours upon hours getting them to lvl 20 by killing monsters. This is also good for quickly adding lvl 20 pets to your Hall of Monuments.
Peace! -(IGN: ReZ DoGG)

Well any profession can do the res and healing part really. Don't really need a monk, but why not? hehe. Yeah, fast casting would speed things up alil bit with ressurecting you.

Unfortunately not, you can't bring a hero along when you tame it

Well atleast one hero is required, I never tried taking a full group and then flaggin them away when i want to level them. I thought that having a full group might lower their exp from killing you, but I am not sure... I usually just take one hero. Not sure why it didn't level up... sure you didn't do something wrong?

Ummm not sure... possibly doing HFFF for kurzick might level up your pets, not sure if it gives them exp or not, but it does for heros. Try it out and let me know if it does. I'll be lookin to lvl up a Rainbow Phoenix too.

I am sure there are a number of different ways to get your health below 10hp at 60dp. Can mix up runes with weapons, or grim cesta.. .whatever can get your health down low enough.

This is how I leveled my pet to dire the first time around, which was a while ago, so some skills might work better now. I changed it up more recently on a mountain eagle, but I don't have the template on this computer, so I will post it tomorrow.
Attributes:
Beast Mastery- 12+1+whatever rune you want
Expertise-8+1
Wilderness Survival-7+1
Earth Magic-8
1. Ferocious Strike {Elite}
2. Feral Lunge
3. Brutal Strike
4. Poisonous Bite
5. Whirling Defense
6. Troll Unguent
7. Armor of Earth
8. Charm Animal
I used this in Elona Reach mission for the minotaurs there. Also, this cannot be used to tank large groups, the max i did was 3. But dont worry because your pet can only attack 1 monster at a time. Armor of Earth cuts the damage down to an amount manageable by troll unguent (7 regen) with a nice whirling defense thrown in to start everything off. i started out using Lighting Reflexes in place of Poisonous Bite, but decided i would be better off with more damage. I used a totem axe for more energy and longer Armor of Earth and a +45, -2 dmg offhand for more energy as well and full radiant for even more energy. Those attack skills worked fine for me, but any combo could be used, just leave in Ferocious Strike for energy. I could kill a minotaur in 20-30 seconds with those, but let me know of better skills if you have some. i tried doing trolls outside of droks too, but it was too difficult to get any small groups and it just took too long. Also, spend a while figuring out the patterns of the minotaurs so you dont aggro too many accidentally, and if you need help with that, just let me know.
Again, I'm pretty sure I used a different skill to soak up damage, but I cannot remember. So you can try that, or wait till tomorrow .

that would be death leveling at a shrine, cause any hard rezz doesn't rezz you for 100% so you would die instantly when you have 1hp left...
+ I did it your way ReZDoGG and I got my Eagle to level 20 in 1h25, thanks alot

How about [wiki]Physical Resistance[/wiki]? Is effective at low levels. If you ditch Troll in favor of a BM healing like [wiki]Heal as One[/wiki], [wiki]Companionship[/wiki] or [wiki]Predatory Bond[/wiki], you can concentrate on Expertise and Beastmastery.
For leveling Pyre's Eagle I've set Pyre up as [wiki]Enraged Lunge[/wiki] beastmaster and myself as ZB life-bonder which worked ok, even managed to keep myself alive when under fire.

I think I did ditch troll for a BM heal, and it wasn't Physical Resistance, because you can only have one stance up at a time. I think it had something to do with bringing a hero with a spirit to make the damage elemental for some skill, but then you may as well bring a bonder and flag him way off, but again, I can't really remember right now.
As an aside, I haven't spent a lot of time on the Guru forums until the last month or so and I am not familiar with how to make the skills show up like they are in your post Amy. Anyone able to let me know how to do so?

OK, I remembered what I did, and it was to use a hero with [skill]Greater Conflagration[/skill] and some other spirits to hasten the kills and [skill]Mantra of Flame[/skill] on myself for damage reduction and energy management, but you may as well use a bonder, [skill]Life Barrier[/skill] and [skill]Life Bond[/skill] for damage soaking and [skill]Balthazar's Spirit[/skill] for energy for those who don't know. Just ping the hero out of your aggro bubble and he won't steal any xp. On your bar bring [skill]Enraged Lunge[/skill][skill]Feral Lunge[/skill][skill]Poisonous Bite[/skill][skill]Brutal Strike[/skill][wiki]Feral Aggression[/wiki][skill]Predatory Bond[/skill][wiki]Never Rampage Alone[/wiki]and of course[skill]Charm Animal[/skill]. 4 could be replaced, but you want the degen, and as the build is, minotaurs go down fast, and you don't die with up to 3 minotaurs at the beginning of Elona Reach. You can probably do HM if you replace 4 with D-shot for their heal sig. Trust me, it works. You will have a Dire pet in no more than two hours, since it may take you a little while to learn the patterns of the minotaurs. Good luck and have fun!
Forgot equipment! I use a Totem axe for energy and a Healing Ankh from Seung, for obvious reasons.
Went through in HM and it is easy. Since they have [skill]Endure Pain[/skill], [skill]Healing Signet[/skill] is really a nonissue. They only use both at low health, and with degen, when endure pain ends, they die. So bring whatever skill you like, such as Brutal Strike .
